Thales has been in Singapore since 1973 and has continuously invested in its commercial, industrial and R&D activities to grow its presence. Thales Solutions Asia, a new entity formed in early 2011 from the merger of 4 different companies, has activities in the Defence, Avionics, Security & Transportation domains as well as in Research & Technology.
Over the past 39 years, Thales has contributed to the development of Singapore and has come to be associated with some of the country’s most acknowledged achievements. Thales has been supplying sophisticated air-traffic management systems to the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, urban rail control and ticketing systems for the MRT lines, avionics on-board Singapore Airlines’ Airbus aircraft, and various advanced systems acquired by the Singapore Armed Forces. Furthermore, Thales has had and continues to have excellent technical collaboration with major actors in the defence and R&D sectors.
The Avionics business started in the early 80s with the primary objective to support the expansion of the Airbus fleet in the Asia Pacific Region. Acting as the main entry point and hub for Thales Aerospace division’s development in Asia-Pacific today, the activities in Singapore include production of avionics, maintenance, repair & overhaul as well as Sales & Marketing for both commercial and military aerospace.
The Security & Transportation domain was originally created in 1994 to provide after-sales and technical support to local customers, firstly in the Security business. In 1995 and 1997, Thales was awarded significant contracts in Command and Control Systems by the Ministry of Home Affairs. In 2000, we started developing competencies in the Transportation domain. Today, the domain has built up its capabilities and has evolved to become the regional Integration Centre, dedicated to the design, engineering and delivery of solutions to address both the Security and Transportation markets.
The Research & Technology Centre was set-up with the aims of complementing and leveraging on Singapore’s R&T ecosystem, developing leading-edge technical solutions to meet the local requirements and contributing to Thales’ technology and product portfolios. It is one of the four Thales corporate research centres and the first one outside of Europe. As the Singapore platform for localizing Thales technologies, it facilitates a transfer of technical knowledge from Europe to Singapore and serves as an effective interface between Thales experts and Singapore researchers.
Thales is a global technology leader for the Defence & Security and the Aerospace & Transport markets. In 2011, the company generated revenues of €13 billion with 68,000 employees in more than 50 countries. With its 22,500 engineers and researchers, Thales has a unique capability to design, develop and deploy equipment, systems and services that meet the most complex security requirements. Thales has an exceptional international footprint, with operations around the world working with customers as local partners. www.thalesgroup.com

Since joining Thales in 2003, he has worked in different positions involved in research & technology, particularly in the areas of communication networks and software-defined radio. Prior to Thales, he was a R&D engineer in Siemens working on 3G cellular systems and a research engineer in the National University of Singapore (NUS). He obtained both his Bachelor degree and Master degree in Engineering from the NUS in 1998 and 2002 respectively.
Antoine Fagette received an engineering master degree from Ecole Centrale Paris, France in 2010. Ecole Centrale Paris is one of France’s prestigious Grandes Ecoles where he followed a general program and deepened his formation in Advanced Systems and Conception and Industrialization of Innovative Systems. After completing his end of study internship at Thales Training and Simulation on “Merging inertial, GPS and image sensors in order to geo-localize a person with precision”, he got hired by Thales Solutions Asia in 2011 and is now conducting a PhD thesis on “Video crowd detection and behavior analysis” at IPAL in Singapore.
